"tip of the iceberg".

Played racquetball yesterday at Kenyon. My pregame blood sugar was 110 and the postgame reading was 109. So my Friday test of 36 was faulty due to an insufficiently sized blood drop on the test strip. The four days that I spent wondering if I had hypoglycemia may have a profound effect on this diet. I need to consume good carbs and not exhaust my bodies long term ability to create insulin. (Eat as if I have "type 2".) The obiesity is just the "tip of the iceberg". Good metaphor for other possible long term symptoms that could be lying underneath the water; type 2 diabeties, high blood pressure, chloresterol & joint issues, etc.

@ Kenyon College, Gambier, OH.

Played 2 hrs of racquetball yesterday and it definitely paid off on the scales this morning. Great sport; fast, shuffling, start/stop, easy on the joints. LOVE IT! Down 8 lbs now, an all-time high from the start of this diet. One concern, (question for sis'ta; Deb) when finished, my blood sugar was 36??? I checked it because my good buddy (Tim Chesnut) was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, so I pricked myself and tested out at 36. Huhh?? We aim to play frequently and plan to do a pre' and post' game test soon. (hypoglycemia??, I have no other symptoms.)

Mission Impossible

This is much tougher than I thought it was going to be. Seems like what I would consider a small mistake, results in a big penalty. Not gaining weight, but not losing either. Needing to steer clear of all the "starchies", breads, pastas, rice, (mistake @ Chipotle) and increase water intake. Here's the plan for 2'morrow; breakfast: Chiropractic Blend (green drink) with 2oz of MonaVie pulse, and a 2 egg sandwich on an Arnold mulit-grain bun. Lunch: Kashi almond bar. Dinner: something to get me to 40 WW pts for the day, and that's it!

Childhood Hero.

What did Godzilla do when he got knocked down? HE GOT BACK UP; and @ 300lbs, (down only 3lbs from the start) that's what I aim to do! I'm making some mistakes on work trips, and it didn't help that Thanksgiving was yesterday. I definitely gave thanks....

No pain; no gain.

Every other day, I'm breaking a sweat @ Kinetics. 15-20 years have passed, and it's definitely a different workout. Taking numerous excercises to muscle failure (chest/legs) has been replaced by high rep/low wgt. and cardio work. And Melia loves the playroom with Annie.

Passing Gas

Remember when gas stations just sold gas? Well, now they are filled with temptations to get a good diet sidetracked. I just finished a 5 day trip to Florida and back. Glad to report that I'm the same weight now as when I left.

ZZZzZZzZzzzzzz.

Before embarking on this challenge, I made sure that my sleep was right. I did a portable home sleep study and discovered that I had severe case of sleep apnea. I stopped breathing (10 sec.) an average of 42.5 times per hour and the condition ramped up to 50x per hour when in REM. As the years went by, the apnea was taking it's toll; no energy, foggy minded, excessive naps, and a factor in weight gain. Simply too tired to engage in a sweat producing excercise. Enter auto'CPAP!! This device forces airflow during sleep, and voila'!, sweet dreams, and haven't taken a mid-day nap since. This was a huge RED FLAG to get my weight under control, because #1, sleep apnea is a silent killer and precursor for other diagnosises' and #2, although I'm sleeping like a baby now, I don't want be "CPAP reliant" for the rest of my life.

Get to the point!

Started my diet yesterday at a rotund 303 lbs, a far cry from the svelte 218 lbs on my wedding day. At 303, I can't ride the rides @ an amusement park mecca; Cedar Point. No, this isn't about Cedar Point, but my blogs' theme is a symbolic alarm that has sounded get my girth under control, and ultimately, improve quality of life. (like riding roller coasters again!) Over time, I will journal the peaks, valleys, goals, strategies, and motivatons behind my quest to overcome obesity. Strap in; my ride is going to rival the Dragster & Millenium Force.
